It is a question many have wondered that why do dogs lick people. There are some possible explanations for this behavior, and the motive for touching people appears to vary for different dogs and different situations.
First of all the licking patterns are observed in puppies from a very young age. Many times, we have seen puppies licking things, organic material as well as other dogs and human.
Way to Communicate with Owner
The natural licking instincts say that when a dog licks a human, they may wish to communicate with the other person or to express how they are feeling. When a dog meets his owner, the dog licking his face is the part of the dog-friendly gesture.
Licking May Be His Way to Get Attention
It is genuine that dogs like the taste and smell of lotion and seek to lick it off the skin of the person using these things. Dogs want attention, and if they don’t get enough, then they learn to get it by barking, stealing shoes and even licking.
Underlying Disorder May be the Reason
You may be aware of it that when your stomach is upset, you tend to get a bad taste and you produce a bit of saliva that can make you lick your lips. The same is true for your pet; any underlying disorder which produces could cause your pet to touch a lot.
Pain and Tolerance Make Him Lick
When human get any oral issue, they just become stressed and tensed, in the same way, your pooch feels and tolerate. And, licking is the part of this suffering. If he gets anything painful or abnormal in his mouth, it can make him lick.
Psychological Reasons May Occur Excess Licking
It is entirely uncommon if your dog is licking excessively. This can occur for a different psychological reason like stress, boredom, separation, anxiety etc. The dog suffering from cognitive dysfunction can also present licking.
Now, it is clear that why do dogs lick people? Some of them are the critical part of their communication and bonding with their owner, and some are the signal of the more serious medical issue like anxiety, allergies etc.
