Many people don’t have enough space to raise a large animal; therefore they opt for a small one like a rabbit. There are many rabbit breeds, and each one has some characteristics which make it different from others and suitable for every person with a distinctive mood. There is a list of some rabbit species suitable to be kept as pets:
Mini Rex:
These rabbit species had their existence in France in 1800s. Due to a recessive gene, the breed’s hair sticks out from the body. It is blessed with an outer layer of fur which is shorter than many rabbit breeds. Its soft undercoat gives a nickname to the breed called Velveteen Rabbits.
The Mini Rex is small in size: a fully grown rabbit’s weight is between 7/2 and 9/2 pounds. This breed is very cordial, which makes it one of the most famous rabbit breeds in America.
Holland Lop:
The Holland Lop is a famous show rabbit. It is a dwarf rabbit breed and weighs 2 to 4 pounds. The rabbit has its origins in the Netherlands and came into recognition in 1979 by the American Rabbit Breeders Association. The breed is naturally excitable and enjoys playing. The rabbit is perhaps the perfect rabbit for the family having kids. These rabbits enjoy playing with children, but sometimes hate to be held.
Dutch:
Dutch rabbits are very famous for their distinctive color pattern. They were originally bred in England. In terms of size, this breed is a little larger than the dwarf ones. But, it is still small and weighs between 7/2 and 11/2 pounds. Its nature is calm and tolerant. The rabbit can tolerate the nuisance of being held and petted by children.
Dwarf Hotot:
Similar to Dutch rabbits, the Dwarf Hotot’s distinctive coloring makes it popular. Its coat is completely white, except for a tiny circle around its eyes.
Initially, the Dwarf Hotot was not a dwarf breed. In the 1900s, the larger Blanc de Hotot was the breed for having a white rabbit with black eyes to be used for its meat and fur. After some time, more people started keeping these cute animals as pets. Their popularity started increasing, and then the Dwarf Hotot was created.
The Dwarf Hotot’s ears weigh around 3 pounds and are straight. This breed is apt to be sociable, but sometimes can be temperamental. The rabbit is the perfect breed for those who want the bunny that hugs quite often.
Mini Lop:

Netherland Dwarf:
The Netherland Dwarf is not good for the family having kids. It is very small in size and weighs between 1.1 and 2.5 pounds. The breed is better for a noiseless and stable atmosphere than the one having kids running around. In spite of being small, the breed requires a large amount of exercise. Netherland Dwarfs are distant and lively, which make them unsuitable for kids. But, they love to be with adults. They will enjoy human company provided with a safe and stable atmosphere.
